It all began in 1995 when Robban decided to form a band that were a bit more extreme than the Doomy death metal like he’d been involved with before. Two friends (Mattias Andersson and Andreas Nilsson) were recruited on bass and drums and the rehearsals resulted in ten songs ending up on the two first rehearsal demos released in January 96’. Later that year a real demo was recorded, named “Dark & Mysterious”. About this time Azure started to appear in various Swedish underground fanzines and also did some live appearances. Just before the recording of the fourth outcome, “The Eroican”, Andersson decides to leave the band and Robban is forces to handle all the strings by his own. When the four-track demo is released in 97’ the critics are great and soon a contract is signed with the new started label Phenteselia Records. Three completely new tracks are recorded and later released in ’98 in 500 copies by the label. However, a few months earlier the German record label Solistitium offered a full length deal to the band, witch they signed.
As Andreas is busy with a lot of other bands, Robban decides to use his long time friend, Mattias Holmgren, behind the drums. The only problem in this is the distance… being around 800 kilometres. But Robban took a flight to Umeå, Sweden and spent three weeks rehearsing, recording and lots of drinking. Due to problems with the printers the release of “Moonlight Legend” is delayed for two months but when it hits the stores the response from media are overall good…
In 2000 a few new songs were written and recorded as a promo-CD in an attempt to get a new contract as Solistitium had been put on ice. The songs were only half finished and the sound terrible so it’s not hard to see why only a few uninteresting offers were offered to the band. Shortly after this, Azure is being stuffed in a box and placed in the basement for a while as Robban instead concentrates on other things. A few things to mention is his own Magazine, layout jobs for other Magazines, a small European tour with Swedish Centinex as session singer and playing American style death metal in Relentless with old Azure member Mattias Andersson. In 2002 Robban moved to Motala, Sweden to start working for the Metal dealer, store, label, etc, TPL Records and basically put his own music on the shelf to concentrate on others…
In April 2004 Robban gets a phone call from Mattias Holmgren, telling him to start compose and come up to Umeå and record a new album in his studio, Morningdew Media. Said and done; in July Robban arrives to Mattias crypt and they work hard to keep the booze in the blood stream and yeah, also to record the four new songs Robban had written. These four songs were sent out to a few record labels and in short Karmageddon Media was in touch and wanted to release the new album. Some new songs were written and in September Robban once again visited Umeå to record the album. With some help from the Embracing (Mattias band) guys they managed to put some 40+ minutes of metal on tape (or harddrive to be exact), and also a few other people contributed with some awesome work. Like Nils Norberg of Nocturnal Rites and Ulph Johansson (famous guitarist in the north of Sweden). The bass is handled by Peter Uvén of Embracing, which did some really outstanding stuff, and even showed off with a solo on the track “Selene – The Sprit”.
“We all had a great time with lots of curses, lots of Smirnoff Vodka and Gin Tonics… That’s how you get the nerve and rawness into a metal production….” Everything was finished by December 2004 and Robban shipped the package to Karmageddons office for printing. Many months went by and nothing happened. Robban made sure the contract was terminated and got in touch with Pulverised and Deathgasm for the release instead. The album cover is done by Pär Johansson (Satariel), long time friend of Robban, and the upcoming artist Hampus Johansson contributed with some great images for the booklet.
